“The single most important ingredient in the formula for success is knowing how to get along with people.” Theodore Roosevelt
Leading Self or Leading Others
Regardless of who you’re leading, history would suggest that leaders operate by combining Character with a number of Core Principles. These typically stem from our experiences, the mistakes we make, and the opportunities presented to us to improve. I have not yet met the perfect leader; it is too subjective and difficult a trait to culminate in Perfection. For those at BYC Coaching, leadership is about setting the right example, injecting optimism, and serving those who are following you.
DISC and Behavioural Styles
DISC describes how we behave, not who we are. Depending on how a situation feels, we move between four behavioural modes: Dominant, Influential, Steady and Cautious. These behaviours manifest in how we show up in Public, in Private and under pressure, and in our Self-Perception or Mirrored self. We tend to vary these behaviours unconsciously but with DISC knowledge it is entirely possible to change your behaviour as you understand the situation in front of you. Leadership and communications are so intertwined it’s almost pointless separating them as subjects. Knowing your own patterns, and reading the mode of the person and situation in front of you, is the key to leadership, of self or others.
The DISC Communication Toolkit below is for my clients only. Once you upload the DISC report we gave you, please follow the instructions and see how your communication mode changes depending on multiple scenarios. Use this beforehand and your leadership and communications will improve.
