BYC Coaching was founded by Mike Shervington OBE, a highly decorated elite paratroop commander with more than 2 decades of military service alongside the British, US, and Australian armies.
Mike led teams of up to 1,200 people around the world, operating in hostile, high-consequence environments where servant leadership, tactical knowledge, trust and clarity mattered most. In 2016 he was awarded an OBE by HM The Queen for exceptional leadership.
Having witnessed both superb and toxic leadership throughout his career, Mike now pours his energy into helping others lead effectively, with integrity, and live better, more purpose-driven lives. BYC Coaching is based near Avoca Beach on NSW’s Central Coast.
Our Coaching History & Future
After leaving the Army, Mike spent 5 years in Sydney’s commercial world before transitioning into a coaching career, working alongside the Royal Australian Navy in Sydney and Perth as a leadership and performance coach.
Since then, BYC Coaching has partnered with organisations including Clarence Correctional Centre, the Bank of Queensland, and a wide range of executives, teams, and elite performers across Australia and internationally.
BYC Coaching is increasingly supported by a growing network of specialist coaches, facilitators, and practitioners, united by a shared commitment to values-led leadership and sustained performance.
We’re also growing our coaching base, looking for people with emotional intelligence, a deep sense of service to others, and the right coaching mindset. Given our military roots, we encourage military veterans and those in the emergency services to apply; it’s a wonderful subsequent career!

Purpose
To find your calling. To live purposefully. With Intention. These words epitomise the energy and focus we all need to navigate the myriad of life’s challenges, to push ourselves beyond our comfort zones and improve our ability to absorb pressure, often under the most acute pressure.
Service
Our military service taught us that true, impactful leadership stems from serving others. Servant Leadership, and Service more broadly, propels us now to serve our clients to the absolute best of our ability, from devising the right workshop exercises for you, or sitting in silence.
